Dojo Update: Wi-Fi Play

I was wondering if they were going to do something special for the 100th site entry, and they did, by reconfirming one of the most anticipated parts of the game: online play. Since they hadn't mentioned anything since the game was first unveiled, some people began to question whether or not lag issues made the developers scrap the whole thing. But they did not.

Speaking of lag issues, it's basically the first thing they address. Much like Mario Strikers, the developers inform you that playing against people on other continents may prove too slow. We all understand.

The rest of the features are as expected: there's a section for friends you register (yes, there are Friend Codes, boohoo get it all out) and a section for battling random people. However, it seems only the Friends mode has access to all the various gameplay modes in the game, it's the only mode where you can see who you are playing and gets recorded in your file, and it's also the only mode where you can assign messages to the four sides of the D-Pad to go along with your taunts (so, does this mean all the sides are used for taunts now?). But at least you CAN play against random people if none of your friends are on.

And while you wait for the match to load up, you get to beat up Sandbag. Brilliant!

Finally, they say that they are planning a number of Wi-Fi-based services, which is why they opened an entire section for it. What could this possibly be? Well, aside from stuff like sticker/post card trading, which seems pretty obvious. We'll have to wait and see, like so much of the game.

Aren't you glad they got that out of the way?
