Old Item/New Edition!

I've wondered in recent times if returning items will be covered on the Dojo in some way. It seems like the only mention the Super Scope will get is via the Moving and Shooting article. What about other obvious mainstays?

Then I thought...what if they do get mentioned (or possibly get their own write-ups), kinda like the Super Scope, because some aspect of them has changed? And thus I thought about how the common items could be changed into something brand new for Brawl. Here's the rundown:

This is an idea that's been kicking around for a while: replace the generic Ray Gun with the nostalgialicious NES Zapper. They'd do pretty much the same thing, only this one would look cooler. Oh, and I guess the Moving and Shooting thing would apply as well.

Call it a double-rip-off if you must, but I think it'd be cool to replace the normal Beam Sword with a double-edged one. Just say it's a reference to Kirby 64, and you're all set. One new feature that would go well with this: by holding or tapping the attack button, your character will twirl the sword around, causing rapid minor damage to everyone in front of them. This also fits in with some of the ideas they've been shooting around.

This one seems odd, but oh well. Because I've been thinking about Mario Paint lately, and especially the Gnat Attack mini-game (more on that in a future brainstorming article). The Fan is a weak, but fast and unblockable weapon. A fly swatter would work about the same, right? Sure. So, to make me and my Mario Paint affair happy, they could replace the fan with the Gnat Attack fly swatter.
This one is particularly likely (paper fans have some cultural significance in Japan, or something). But a man can dream.

Out of all my ideas, this one seems the most likely. That is, replace the classic Super and Poison Mushrooms with the modern Mega and Mini Mushrooms, ala New Super Mario Bros.(No pictures of them, I'm afraid.) While the 'Gotcha!' element of the shrinking 'shroom is gone, this can forgiven by making the Mini Mushroom something you might WANT to get in some situations. First and foremost, your character would become much faster, and they'd also be able to jump higher. This increase in evasiveness would make up for the loss of stamina and power, right?
